About

Students in the Teaching and Training program will explore student learning and a variety of teaching experiences. During their senior year, students will work with a cooperating teacher at either the elementary or middle-school level where they will provide instruction utilizing lesson plans developed based on the most current educational research and technology. Areas of emphasis will include teaching and learning theory, characteristics of an educator, planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and the fundamentals for development of learners in an educational setting.

Students in the Teaching and Training Program at East Tech are preparing to become a future elementary or secondary teacher. This program prepares students to be college and career ready. It also provides unique opportunities for Teaching and Training students to apply what they have learned in their classes in classrooms across the Las Vegas Valley. Program opportunities include classroom observations, guest speakers, field trips, school visits, dual credit classes, and an internship with a local school teacher.

Internships:

Senior Teaching and Training students work with a cooperating mentor teacher at a local elementary school or middle school where they will learn the day-to-day responsibilities of teachers; interact with students individually, in small groups, and in large groups; and provide instruction, developing and utilizing lesson plans based on the most current educational research and technology.

Partnership with Nevada State College:

Teaching and Training junior and senior level students have the opportunity to earn dual college education credits through Nevada State College. Students who successfully complete these classes can earn 3 or more college credits for the following classes:
