Qualifications

If there are more applications than there are seats available, a computerized random lottery will be used to select students.  High school magnet programs are categorized as either interest-based or STEM-based.  All STEM-based programs require students to qualify for the program before entering the lottery for admission; interest-based programs do not have qualifications.

Selection Process

Students are selected for enrollment through a computerized, random lottery process.  Lottery results will be made available online on the applicant’s dashboard in their magnet account.

Lottery outcomes:

  • Not qualified Student did not qualify to go through the lottery process
  • Selected Student was selected and must now decide if they wish to accept the seat
  • Alternate pool Student qualified are now waiting for a vacancy as other students are going through the acceptance process and seats become available

If the student wishes to accept the seat for which they has been selected, the applicant must accept the seat online on the dashboard in their magnet account. Any applicants not selected during this initial lottery are placed into an alternate pool.  Should a student choose not to attend after being selected for a Magnet/CTA seat, the vacant seat will be assigned to a student in the alternate pool, through a computerized, random selection prior to the end of the second week of each school year.

If seats are available after the initial lottery and after the alternate pool has been exhausted, late applications will be utilized to fill vacancies.

Important Considerations

By accepting the seat at East Tech, the student is committing to enrollment for at least ONE year and will abide by the expectations specified in the CCSD Magnet Contract.  Once the seat has been accepted, students cannot accept a seat at any other campus or for any other program. Students may not change their programs at any time. Students will remain in the program they selected for the remainder of the time they are a student at East Tech.  It is important that students apply only to programs they are interested in as they may be selected into any of the programs for which they applied.  In addition, please verify transportation before accepting the seat, especially if the applicant resides outside of the transportation zone and needs bus transportation. Transportation will not be provided to students who live outside of East Tech’s transportation boundaries.

Sibling information:   If a sibling is already enrolled in and attending the Magnet/CTA to which their sibling applies, and the sibling will continue to be enrolled in the Magnet/CTA for the coming school year, CCSD will give a preference to the sibling to attend the Magnet/CTA, if they are qualified and select the same school as their first choice. To be eligible for the sibling preference the parent or guardian must submit an application online to their first choice Magnet/CTA school by the application deadline. Acceptance of a sibling is not guaranteed.

You may visit magnet.ccsd.net for more information about the selection process, preferences given to the applications, and other CCSD Magnet Schools and programs.

Transportation

Transportation is only given to students who reside within our transportation zone and live further than two miles from the school. It is important that students/parents check the transportation site to see if the home address is located within the boundaries of our transportation zone.

Students who live outside of the transportation zone can still attend East Tech but must provide their own transportation to and from campus. PLEASE NOTE: Students who live outside the transportation zone and accept a seat, will not be released to return to their home/zoned school once the school year begins, for transportation issues. If you have further questions regarding transportation, please contact the CCSD Transportation Department at 702-799-8111.
