Admissions and Recruitment
Thank you for your interest in East Career and Technical Academy. Applications will be available through the magnet.ccsd.net website when the applications open for the 25-26 school year. The deadline for the application will be published when it becomes available.
Applicants may choose up to a maximum of three (3) Magnet/CTA programs and place them in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice order of preference. Students are advised to consider their interests and abilities, look up information about the programs and schools, and check transportation eligibility when considering applying to magnet programs. In addition, there are costs/fees associated with East Tech programs, please visit the individual program pages located under the Academics Menu for more information regarding specifics about each program.
There is qualifying criteria only for STEM-based programs such as IT, Nursing Assistant, and Sports Medicine. This includes first-semester grade point average (GPA) and first semester grades in English, math, and science. Please refer HERE for more information. The rest of the programs at East Tech do not have any qualifying criteria.
The benefits of applying online: applicants will receive an email confirmation after creating an account and applying for programs, make changes to the application before the deadline, and if accepted to a program, may accept the seat online instead of by mail.
If the applicant attends a charter, private, home/online school or an out-of-district school, he/she must provide a copy of his/her first semester/trimester report card to the first choice school. The deadline for the application and documentation will be published when it becomes available. The application is considered incomplete if the report card is not received by the school by the deadline and as a result, the student will not be considered for the lottery. Current 8th-grade CCSD students do not need to provide their report card. Teacher recommendations and essays are not required or accepted.
Please note, not all schools provide transportation to their schools. It is critical that applicants check the transportation boundary for East Tech before they submit an application as we provide limited transportation. Transportation information is located at http://transportation.ccsd.net and https://magnet.ccsd.net/transportation. If the applicant lives outside of the transportation boundary and is selected, he/she must provide his/her own transportation.
After a computerized, random lottery is conducted by the CCSD Magnet Department, students are notified by email of their admittance. Please make sure your email is current and one that you check regularly. This information will also be available online in the applicant's dashboard in his/her magnet account.

Important information after the lottery:
- Lottery outcomes:
- Not qualified (Student did not qualify to go through the lottery process)
- Selected (Student was selected and must now decide if he/she wishes to accept the seat)
- Alternate pool (Student qualified and is now waiting for a vacancy as other students are going through the acceptance process and seats become available)
If selected students must accept the seat through the magnet application account. Acceptances must be submitted by the deadline posted online. Please consider that by accepting the seat, the student is committing to enrollment for at least ONE year and will abide by the expectations specified in the CCSD Magnet Contract. Once the seat has been accepted, students cannot accept a seat at any other campus or for any other program. Students may not change their programs at any time. Students will remain in the program they selected for the remainder of the time they are a student at East Tech. It is important that students apply only to programs they are interested in as they may be selected into any of the three for which they applied. In addition, please verify transportation before accepting the seat, especially if the applicant resides outside of the transportation zone and needs bus transportation.
If placed in the alternate pool, students will be notified by phone and email as vacancies occur through a computerized, random selection process prior to the end of the second week of each school year.
If seats are available after the initial lottery and after the alternate pool has been exhausted, there is a process for late applications. Applications received after the deadline, will not be considered for the initial lottery but will remain on file for future vacancies through the late application/lottery process.
